Onrop the Musical

Dump me to ONROP Island please,,,,

Onrop musical is a musical satire comedy theater. It is directed by Joko Anwar the director behind the noir indie film Kala and Pintu Terlarang which awarded in many festivals around the world. The choreographer is Eko Supriyanto, one of the lead dancer for Madonna "Drowned World" tour. With huge advertisement and supported with experienced crew makes it most awaited theater show of the year.



First, i'll share the story about how hard it is to get the ticket! all of their shows is SOLD OUT! 7 days of shows, 9 performances!! i went to the main office of Sixstories production, queueing for tickets which is Looooong! and guess what, there's a angry lady at the back complaining why she has to queued,,,*WTH,,,why complaining,,,is in the system!*
it turns out, the lady is a friend of the producer and she casually skip the queue. Zzzzz,,,,that attitude is WOW! i can't say more,,,PITY THE LADY,,,,that's all! but then, i got my ticket so i'll try to forget the unfortunate event and be happy!

Ok,,,back to Onrop! Basically the story is about love and freedom to express ourself. The setting is around 2020 in Indonesia. Indonesia is a place that uphold morality, people can't freely express their feelings. The main lead is Bram, Sari and Amir. Bram works as a religion novelist and he obey all the rule that apply in Indonesia. Sari is Bram's girlfriend, she's flirty and rebellious to Indonesian rules, she thinks that the rule is unreasonable (can't date, can't kiss, can't wear a mini skirt, etc). Next is Amir, he's Bram gay assistant, but he can't come out of the closet because the government don't allow him to so he has to pretend to be a straight guy all the time.

Because there's a misunderstanding (Bram use the word "naked" in one of the novel as a metaphor) , Bram is dump to Onrop! island. People who don't follow the rules will be dump to Onrop Island. So called "hell island filled with sinners". No good people ever lived in Onrop!. When Bram is in Onrop island, Onrop! is nothing like the rumors,,,it's a peaceful, colorful island where people can express their creative ideas. It's the island for OPEN MINDED people,,,modern yet respect the culture people!

now here it come my personal opinion regarding the show,,,,
1. I like theater Jakarta, the seat is set so that in where ever seats we are, we will always had a good look.
(my seat the cheapest one,,,quite far but i still can see it clearly)
2. Always with sound, minor remarks on sound, sometimes i can't here clearly the conversation (words by words)
3. The concept design, set are impressive! The lightning also wonderful!
4. The costume is a bit boring,,,,The onropians should have more colors!
5. The dance section is good, entertaining however i think Gita Cinta is better ;p
6. The cast is OK,,,,standing ovation to Ary Kirana (Sari), Ario Bayu and Yudi (both played as Amir). Amir definitely steal the show!
7. The story,,,overall is good! The details that they put on the satire comment is what makes it special and they also include current issues such as : Tiffie's handshake, Obama visit, Sri Mulianya, etc. But for me the plot is quite weak. The ending is a bit disappointing,,,,more sequel will come!

And the best moment for me is when i talked to Ario Bayu after the show and take a picture with him! fortunately, he works with my friend before and my friend introduce me to him,,,,and i just learn that he's the same age as me!! Man, i'm old! i thought he'll be around 27 - 28 years old


That's it,,,i had a lot of fun today! Watching good shows, karaoke-ing, drink and hang out! It was a blast,,,weekend is always FUN!
